How much does the Online Certified Financial Planner™ Certification Education Program cost?
You may purchase the entire program (all five financial courses) with a one-time payment of $2,595 or choose to purchase one financial course at a time for just $625.
Who is eligible to take the Online Professional Certificate Program in CFP Certification Education?
Anyone can take the program, however, a bachelor’s degree is required to obtain your financial planning certification.
Who do I contact if I have questions regarding course material?
A mentor is available to answer your questions. The mentor’s contact information will be listed for each financial course once you have enrolled. Mentors will respond within 24 hours when you submit a question via email.
How long can I access the course?
Currently, each financial course is available for each session. The program format is designed so that you can complete the courses at your own pace. Course access is available for up to 18 months after the date of purchase. Mentors are available by email when you have questions.
How many classes can I take at a time?
You can take as many financial courses as you choose.
How do I monitor my progress?
Grades for each course are available in a student’s class/account.
What is the quiz format?
The test and quiz format models the Board exam. Quizzes and tests are delivered online via Moodle (the system used by California State University, Los Angeles to deliver these financial courses). The questions are comprehensive and multiple-choice.
What is the grading scale for the Online Professional Certificate Program in CFP Certification Education?
A= 90%-100%
B= 80% – 89%
C =70% – 79%
D= 60% – 69%
F= < 59%
What is considered a passing score?
An overall grade of C (70%-79%) or higher is considered passing and is required to receive a letter of completion from California State University, Los Angeles.
What are the completion requirements for this program?
You must complete a comprehensive final for each financial course.
How will the CFP Board know I completed the program?
California State University, Los Angeles–College of Extended Studies and International Programs will inform the CFP Board once you have successfully completed the all five finanacial courses. The CFP Board will have your information when you sign up for the exam.
What type of software do I need?
The minimum hardware and software requirements to successfully access a Web-based course are as follows:
- Personal computer (PC): Pentium II, 64 MB RAM Windows 95/98/NT or 2000
- Internet connection (56kps or higher recommended)
- Web browser (Internet Explorer 5.01-5.5 or Netscape Communicator 4.7 only)
- Plug-ins as required by your professor, Microsoft Word, virus protection (strongly recommended)
- Macintosh computer (Mac): Apple Power Macintosh computer, 64MB RAM MAC OS 8 or later
- Internet connection (56kps or higher recommended)
- Web browser (for Macs, Netscape Communicator 4.7 works best)

Where can I order my books for the courses?
After your payment is processed, you will receive an email with links to California State University, Los Angeles’s campus bookstore and Amazon.com to purchase the textbooks needed for each course. Click HERE to preview the required textbooks for each course.
Do I have to travel to a testing center?
No, all tests are offered online.
Can I use this program to earn credits toward a degree?
No.
How quickly can I complete the program?
If you decide to take one lesson each week (there are six lessons per course) and the financial courses are taken consecutively, you can complete the Online Professional Certificate Program in CFP Certification Education in less than 6 months.
Do you accept international students?
Yes.
When and how often are online classes?
All financial courses are asynchronous (no set class meeting time); this allows you to attend class at your convenience.
Can I print the material to take it with me?
Yes.
How do I receive a Letter of Completion from California State University, Los Angeles?
Upon successful completion of the program, you can request a Letter of Completion from the College of Extended Studies and International Programs. Please contact Cal State L.A. with questions regarding the Letter of Completion.
